A Norwegian vessel harpooning a basking shark

This film shows a Norwegian fishing vessel harpooning a basking shark. The basking shark-fishery was at its height between 1950 and 1975. This hunt was an important fishery for a lot of Norwegian vessels during the spring and summer. Some of them combined this fishery with whaling and tuna fishing. The harpoon gun used by the Norwegian fishermen was produced at Kongsberg in Norway.
